Here at Vital Blackburn it is always encouraged that our members get involved, posting comments under articles and/or in the forums. Once such member, Roversguy contacted me over the weekend with his take on Wael Gomaa.

With the Blackburn Rovers’ defence being a hotly debated area of the team, with goals constantly being shipped following the past season and a half of an almost watertight defence, one man that could solve this could be Wael Gomaa… although he can’t arrive until January…

A long standing Rovers target, Gomaa is drawing a lot of interest in England, with this seemingly always the case in Egypt. An Egyptian national, and now Vital Blackburn member Roversguy submitted the following profile to me.

The profile which may not always flow smoothly, has been left almost identically to how it would be when sent to me is worth a look. When I say this I mean no disrespect at all to Roversguy, as it can’t be easy for a person who’s second language would naturally be English to have written the profile as he did.

This should give Rovers fans, if nothing else a little more insight into the past of the man who recently revealed a little more about himself with his *exclusive* Interview to Vital Blackburn. In England we often refer to his Egyptian club as Al Ahly but it would appear it is actually El-Ahly?

Wael Gomaa Profile:
His Full Name: Wael Gomaa Kamel
His Birth date: (Day/Month/Year) 03/08/1975
His hometown: Gharbeya (a City outside Cairo)
Nationality: Egyptian
His Club: EL-Ahly
His place in the field: Center back
Height: 185 cm
Weight: 80 kg

His Start with Football:
Wael Gomaa began his career in a small football club named Ghazl el mahala. Then at a game in the Egyptian Dawry (The Egyptian League) Ghazl el Mahala was playing against El-Ahly football club, the biggest club in Egypt and one of the biggest clubs in Africa and they saw Gomaa he was the best player in his team on that day and after the game which El Ahly finally won in the end 1-0 El-Ahly officials immediately decided to take Wael. And his club didn’t refuse, as they needed money urgently. And from that day Wael’s football life had changed.

His Achievements:
Since Wael Gomaa joined El-Ahly he achieved many great things like winning the Egyptian league 2 times and the Egyptian cup 1 time and the Egyptian Super cup 2 times and the African champions league 2 times and the African super cup 3 time.

Wael went with El-Ahly to Japan to play in the Club World Cup, which Liverpool had participated in. Also Wael since he came to El-Ahly he became one of the starting eleven always then he was taken to join the Egyptian team in the group phase for qualifying for the World cup which unfortunately Egypt didn’t qualify too (but was very close) but Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) qualified instead.

Then Gomaa again was in the starting eleven to play with the Egyptian team in the African Cup of Nations, which Egypt won in the final against Cote d’Ivoire.

Thanks for this Roversguy.

The draw back with having to wait until January to secure the services of the powerful Egyptian International defender will be the fact that the immediate future of the defence can’t be altered, by which this time defensive rock Ryan Nelsen should have hopefully returned to full fitness and indeed the first team.
