Goodwillie to return, but…

Rovers striker David Goodwillie is to return to the club from his loan spell at Dundee United, but it is likely to only be a pitstop as the club look to move him back out on loan again.

Cracking Shaft’s move back to his former club has not produced the fruit that his initial spell pre-Rovers did as he has disappointed with just the six goals in a half season North of the Border. And with Rovers now having some options alongside Jordan Rhodes in attack, boss Gary Bowyer will be looking to shift him out again.

“The whole idea of him going out on loan was to get some games and get some goals,’ Bowyer told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“He`s done that a little bit at Dundee United but not enough that he would have liked, we would have liked or Dundee United would have liked.

“He`s contracted here until the end of next season and we were hoping this loan move would get him going – and any other loan move in the next couple of weeks would be along the same line.

“There`s interest from clubs north and south of the border.”

As talented as Goodwillie has appeared at times he has fallen short of the marks he was hitting in the orange of the Dundee side at Ewood Park with the move so far being a disaster.

Maybe a more productive loan move might help him rediscover the touch?
