Had it not been for Huddersfield’s added time equaliser on New Years Eve Blackburn would have ended 2016 with all three points and not just a point. However, that was followed up with a win to kick off 2017 when Rovers beat Newcastle at Ewood Park.

That goal could have deflated Blackburn but Danny Graham has spoken about the great response shown on Monday against – the then – Championship leaders with him hopeful we’ll kick on from this.

Graham told the Official Website.

‘It has been a great response. We went to Huddersfield and had a game plan which almost worked. So to come and back it up with another great performance against a strong Newcastle team can hopefully kick start our season.’

Beating the league leaders to complete the double over Newcastle couldn’t really have been a better start to the year for Blackburn as the gameplan was – unlike Huddersfield – seen through on this occasion.

The striker added he’s hopeful of this New Year bringing plenty of cheer.

‘It is a fresh start, it is a new year and hopefully we can have a good 2017 together. We had a game plan again to let them have the ball, but I think we have always shown that we are capable of scoring goals so if we can keep it tight then we are always confident that we can nick one and it has worked for us.’

Graham finished by saying it was very much a team effort with match winner Charlie Mulgrew praised for his goal as well as his performance in defence along with Gordon Greer and keeper Jason Steele.

‘It was a great free-kick, we needed something and he has popped up. He was solid at the back as well, he and Gordon Greer, and Steely made a couple of saves when called upon. It was a real team effort and very pleasing.’
