Tony Mowbray admitted – especially when it came to the second half – Blackburn hadn’t been at our best against Charlton on Saturday, but the most important thing was the three points.

A sixth successive League One win was secured when a Leon Best own goal and late Danny Graham clincher sealed a 2-0 Ewood Park victory to keep Rovers within touching distance of second place Shrewsbury and not too far behind league leaders Wigan.

Former Blackburn forward Best, who didn’t exactly part with the club on the best of terms, headed a Charlie Mulgrew freekick past his own goalkeeper to give us the lead on the half hour mark.

David Raya was called upon to make a number of saves to retain Rovers’ lead before the points were confirmed in added time as Graham headed Joe Nuttall’s cross past Ben Amos.

Commenting post match Mowbray told the Official Website: ‘We knew it would be a tough game against a tough side, but we also knew we’d get some chances as they came to play. We showed great resilience in the second half. We showed bundles of character and spirit in the second half. You can’t be dominant like Man City or winning 4-2 every week.’

He went on to talk about Blackburn being ‘a bit more cavalier in our approach’ recently, but with a different tactic taken on Saturday it brought a clean sheet, which pleased him.

The boss also praised Raya’s efforts, knowing how important his first half save, in particular, was.

Mowbray thought ‘we were dominant’ in the first half but the second wasn’t quite as good. However, the three points is basically all that counts and focus will soon shift towards Northampton and the collecting of another three points, all being well.

‘It’s great to win when you’re not at your best. You have to read crosses, head off the line and get blocks in, which we did at times today,’ added Mowbray.

‘The back four did really well and everyone worked hard. They can have a break before putting the shirt on again at Northampton next week.’
