Aussie Rover Vince Grella is not a happy chappy.
He is hitting back at the critics who claim Rovers are purely a long ball team.
Backing up Big Sam’s comments at the weekend, Vince is confident that the bad press attracted by Liverpool manager/bar tender Rafa Benitez is merely a smoke screen to deflect away from the very tough game that Liverpoll had against Rovers.
Grella, speaking to Sky Sports said – ‘I’ve played football in Italy for a long time and to be labelled a long-ball specialist was a little bit offensive,’
‘But it’s part of football. You’ve got to have thick skin.
‘I’m a little bit disappointed. I thought we had a great game against Liverpool.
‘I’ve seen it in Liverpool’s players’ eyes that it was a tough game for them and they couldn’t wait for the final whistle.’
I don’t think we can defend the fact that we like the long ball a bit but to say that is all that is to our game is just flat out ignorant and a lazy cliche.
Well said Vince.
