The Lancashire Telegraph is today reporting that Australian International, Vincenzo Grella, has asked to be excused this entire coming season from the Australian National Team, so he can solely focus on playing as many games as possible in the English Premier League.
As many know, Vinnie has had a troubled time with injuries since his transfer to Rovers, however, he believes, once again, he is ready to face the challenges of the Premier League, and will sacrifice the Green and Gold Socceroos jersey for a season, to ensure he remains fit.
“When I was in Australia I had a meeting with Han Berger ( Caretaker manager for Australia’s next international against Slovenia’ and John Boultbee (FFA’s head of national teams) to discuss my future with the Socceroos. I told them that I felt that in the last year-and-a-half I had not been able to present myself properly at club level because of the demands involved in playing with the national team. I want to be able to spend one year without travelling all over the world playing for the national team, resting in the breaks and getting my body right’…
Whilst Grella’s future at Blackburn is uncertain, he does hope he can prove himself in the Premier League, for Blackburn Rovers.
I dont need to say what he is capable of, I know, all Aussies know, and hopefully, fingers crossed, Blackburn Rovers fans will know…
And I did say, give him until January, if no good, then il jump on the sell sell sell bandwagon.
Grella To Focus on Blackburn

At least he has shown he feels like he has something to prove and wants to win the fans over rather than sit on th bench taking the pay cheques. I like this!
