Group stages and out…surely not!

It was always felt that Blackburn Rovers could advance to the group stages of the UEFA but also felt maybe that maybe this is where the European adventure would e… After the opening day group E win over Wisla Krakow in Poland surely the last 32 will be the minimum aim for Rovers now?

With almost 50% of those who voted in a recent poll asking what Rovers were most likely to win thinking it would be the UEFA Cup I referred back to the first poll I posted when I took over Vital Blackburn.

This poll was asking how far Rovers could go in this seasons UEFA Cup. At the time 43% felt it was going to be a case of group stages and bust. 24% felt we may go on to be losing quarter finalists, 9% losing semi finalists with only 1% thinking we’d lose having made the Final. Even back in the summer, before the first ball of the 2006-2007 season had been kicked in anger 23% thought we had enough to go on and win the UEFA Cup!

Even if we make it through the group stages, which we have a great chance of doing as victory over FC Basel on Thursday (which we have a great chance of achieving even in our red kit!) will almost assure this with two games to play, we will still have four rounds, that`s eight games to negotiate before the Final.

It will be interesting to see just how far Rovers fans genuinely think the club could go now, so once the group stages of the UEFA Cup are successfully negotiated (notice I say when not if, that’s how confident I am!) it will be polled again.

Will it be last 32, last 16, quarter finalists, semi finalist, runners up or even UEFA Cup winners…
