Blackburn Rovers target (at least understood to be a target) Eidur Gudjohnsen has said that he is expecting to return to the Premier League this summer.
Sam Allardyce is understood to have tried to sign Gudjohnsen in January but the 30-year-old International wasn’t willing to leave Barcelona. However, fresh from winning a Champions League Winners medal the striker is open to a return to England now (but he could stay at the Nou Camp until the end of his contract) as he seeks regular first-team football, something that he’s found hard to secure in Spain.
Gudjohnsen told the Sunday Mirror: “Without blowing my own trumpet, I think returning to England is probably inevitable.
“There is a lot of interest from the Premier League. I had a great time in England and I know the game inside out. I’m well known in England and enjoyed great success there.
“People know my experience, know I will adapt easy to the football.
“Of course it would be very easy to move back to England. I’ll take the summer to look at the bigger picture and in the end my decision will be based on football reasons, nothing else.
“To be part of a club like Barcelona is a privilege. And who knows I might enjoy it for one more year.“
The Finnish International is also understood to be interesting Everton and Tottenham Hotspur so our chances of landing the former Bolton Wanderers and Chelsea striker would very much depend on our ability to offload players in order to raise funds, with Roque Santa Cruz still the most valuable commodity that we have and the Paraguayans Rovers future is still far from secure.
Allardyce worked with Gudjohnsen briefly at Bolton before he was sold to Chelsea so for the newspapers to make such an assumption that we’ll be making a summer transfer bid for him is a fairly easy one to make so there might not be any truth in this speculation at all!!!
