Hargreaves anyone?

Image for Hargreaves anyone?

Owen Hargreaves was once one of the best midfielders in the English team. He signed for Manchester United for £17 million. In my opinion he was our best midfielder at the 2006 World Cup.

One problem.

Injury.

Hargreaves has now been released by Manchester United after an injury ravaged spell at the club, where he played 39 games in his 4 years there.

Many would suggest Owen retired from football after such a spell, but the former England international has set his sights on a comeback and has been posting videos of himself training on Youtube in a bid to prove his fitness.

Now by no means does a few short video clips prove a mans fitness, however is there any harm in taking this chap on trial?

He is desperate for a club, and would seemingly play for anyone in the top flight for a small fee. He is interested in football and not money.

I know I may get shot down for suggesting this, when we have the likes of Vince Grella and David Dunn currently residing on the fitness bench, but a fit Owen Hargreaves is better than most defensive midfielders in the world.

Take him on trial, let him play in a bit of pre-season, if he proves fit.. offer him a small wage, say £5000 a week + £20,000 appearance fee for one season and it could be the best bit of business we do all of this transfer window.
