Healthy Competition At Blackburn

There are areas that definitely need working on at Ewood Park. Tony Mowbray has made it clear he’s looking to add extra strength in depth, which is certainly lacking, in the striking department at Blackburn.

But the Blackburn boss is more than pleased with his midfield options now and how the additions of Bradley Dack and Ben Gladwin improved his attacking midfield areas – having already added midfielder duo Richie Smallwood and Peter Whittingham before that.

This allows the boss plenty of options when it comes to different formations on offer to him and the players who can play off the striker.

Mowbray told the Official Website: ‘We do have a few options to try and fit in the team. I do look at the board in my office now and I see Elliot Bennett, I see Craig Conway, I see Anthony Stokes, I see Liam Feeney, I see Bradley Dack, I see Ben Gladwin. I see a lot of players that can play behind that striker role.’

A pleasing headache for Mowbray to have but the boss is now looking to replicate this competition for places throughout the Blackburn squad.

Should Rovers manage to have a good level of competition for places throughout the squad it’ll keep players on their toes, make sure complacency doesn’t set in and ensure all remain focused on the job in hand.

He added: ‘I think there’s going to be a lot of competition, but it’s high-quality competition and I think good players expect to be challenged and expect competition for their places and that’s what drives them on and keeps them focused and we have to try and create that with every position on the field if we can.’
