The main thing for Blackburn loanee Doneil Henry, now that he’s back at Ewood Park, is simply that he gets first-team football so will play wherever Paul Lambert wants him to play!

Lambert turned to Henry last week bringing the West Ham man back to Rovers on loan until January but, unlike last season when he came in for an instant debut against Sheffield Wednesday he knows, as he told the Lancashire Telegraph, he might have to ‘bide his time.’

Henry came on for the final minutes against Wednesday last weekend, when Grant Hanley was forced off, and as much as he knows he’ll need to wait for his chance he’s said he’ll be ready when needed.

‘The guys have done really well but my role in this team is to come in and make their job harder.

‘That is no disrespect to the guys because they’re both great players. But my role is that when anything happens I can come in and play right away.

‘But until then I’m just going to worry about myself and make sure I’m doing the right things to put myself in good positions.’

Hanley could well be a serious doubt for Bristol City on Saturday so that might open the door for him? But he’s also more than happy to play at right back, if this is what Lambert wants with him bringing him in primarily as cover for Adam Henley.

Adding.

‘Naturally I’m a centre-half but I can get the job done at right-back if the manager needs me to.

‘Wherever he wants me to play I’ll do the job but until then I’ll just make sure I’m working hard so when it comes, I’ll be ready.’

The main thing is he ends up ‘getting games’ and if he does then, if a loan extension is something Blackburn want, the Canadian international has said he’s more than happy to extend this spell with beyond 3rd January.

Premier League football, with West Ham, is his ultimate aim but as he’s ‘just hungry to continue to make progress as a young footballer’ he’s happy to play as much, and as long as he can, for Rovers for the time being.
