Which, if this comes for Danny Guthrie at former club Reading this afternoon he’s not looking to do his old club any favours as Blackburn target a pre-Christmas win at the Madjeski Stadium.

Paul Lambert would have already selected his starting XI to face the Royals but having failed to start since injury against Hull in September (before the draw with Nottingham Forest) Guthrie hopes to be in this again.

That start against Forest at Ewood Park on Monday was his first (start) since that injury well over two-months ago with him telling the Lancashire Telegraph he hopes he did enough to keep his place.

‘I was injured for quite a while. I came back the same time as the manager came in and wasn’t ready to start. The lads have done well and I’ve had to be patient. You can only put yourself in the frame and hopefully the manager picks you.’

Having been patient, and got that start, you suspect he’ll retain his place against his former side? We’ll fine out soon enough.

Either way he said he’s ‘keen to put one over’ Reading but them being a former side doesn’t make him any more, or less, determined to help Blackburn to a win, this is the main aim!

Turning his attentions to the next few weeks, with plenty of games coming up that ‘could’ shape the Blackburn season, the festive period could be ‘key’ to Rovers being there or thereabouts for a play-off place? He added this is something he feels can be achieved.

‘It’s a key spell in the season. If you can come out of the Christmas period and you’re still in the mix then you’ve got a massive chance. This is a really good side with good energy and a good attitude and we’ll give ourselves a good chance.’
