Hughes: Defeat Not Yet Terminal

Although Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes is baffled by our inability to beat West Ham United at Upton Park he believes that our defeat isn’t yet terminal for our season.

The failure to beat West Ham at Upton Park continued (it’s now 14-years since we last beat the Hammers at Upton) as we lost AGAIN today 2-1, something that Hughes can’t explain, or understand.

Hughes told Sky Sports News: “We seem to have a problem, for whatever reason, whenever we come here.

“West Ham seem to be our bogey team and it has happened again. We can’t quite put our finger on the reason why that seems to happen.

“But probably today it is a situation that we didn’t quite have enough drive in our play when we needed to ask a lot more questions of West Ham.

“In the first half there was a little bit of apprehension about the place and we should have capitalised on that
.”

Despite taking the lead through Roque Santa Cruz, a goal from Dean Ashton equalised before half time, then Hammers debutant Freddie Sears scored the winner. Even after this defeat Sparky is refusing to give up on the European charge, as he feels this will still go until the end of the season and the impact this defeat will have WILL NOT be known until the season does indeed end.

He added: “We have still got games to play and games that we feel we can win.

“Maybe the damage hasn’t been as key as possibly it could have been, but we will have to wait and see.

“It is only at the end of the season when we will see if this defeat has a real impact on us
.”
