Hughes: Defending Cost Us (Again!)

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes once again had his defence to blame for the Carling Cup exit at the hands of Arsenal.

I don’t want to take anything away from Arsenal as they were really good for the most part of the match (Alex Song was SUPERB!) but the slack, often woeful defending from Rovers saw them 2-0 down inside thirty minutes and left them with a mountain to climb, and even when Roque Santa Cruz was able to score twice to level things up it wasn’t to be as Arsenal won 3-2 and Hughes was furious with the defending (again!) that once again left us with too much to do.

Hughes told Sky Sports: “We are disappointed with the way we have defended for all the goals.

“At the moment we’re finding it very difficult to give ourselves a platform which enables us to win games.

“It was the same at the weekend. We’re conceding too many goals from poor situations – but then showing great courage and determination to get back on level terms.

“The effort that we are expending on getting back on level terms is ultimately costing us.

“We have a tendency to just switch off again and teams can capitalise on that.

“That’s what has happened again
.”

It looked all over, then for a while, well probably most of the second half there looked like being only one winner but we can lay a lot of the blame on ourselves at a chance going begging in this seasons Carling Cup, congratulations to Arsenal though and good luck to them in the Semi Final’s.
