Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes was more than pleased with the 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Ewood Park on Saturday Evening, and believes that it was a fair result.

A battle between two teams bidding for a top four place before the game was largely entertaining and could have gone either way in the end, however, both sides had chances to win the match, but Hughes was happy.

Hughes told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: “We are delighted, we’ve gone up against another top four side and we are still unbeaten against them, we’ve kept our run going and we are very happy.

“I think we had a real foothold in the game and created a number of chances that we were a bit unlucky with.

“David Bentley was clean through, David Dunn great shot that hit the underside of the bar and a decent call for a penalty by all accounts. I’ve not seen it since but you can usually tell by the reaction of the players if they think it is a genuine claim
.”

Without the embarrassment of riches that his Liverpool counterpart Rafael Benitez has, Hughes was forced into naming largely the same players that had made it through to the Carling Cup Quarter Finals in midweek. The fact that changes couldn’t be made, when some players could have done with coming out did mean the players tired in the latter stages, which Sparky could understand.

He added: “It wasn’t until the last ten minutes or so when we faded a little bit, which was understandable as we had a lot of guys that played a very difficult game in midweek.

“They had eight players who didn’t play in midweek and that showed towards the end of the game which was understandable.

“But you know sides such as Liverpool will always created chance because they have quality in their side. Steven Gerrard caused us problems by having a free role, but they are a good side and we matched them for long periods in the game and overall I thought a draw was a fair result
.”

We have now played three of last seasons top four, and not one of them have beaten us yet in fact only Arsenal have scored against us, but arguably the biggest test will come next Sunday against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
