Following Harry Redknapp’s surprising rejection for the Newcastle job, Mark Hughes has emerged as front runner for the bookies to succeed Sam Allardyce at St James’ Park.

Speaking after Blackburn’s last minute 2-1 win over Bolton at the Reebok Stadium, Hughes says he’s flattered by the interest shown in him and says it reflects positively on his current club’s progress after more than three years at Ewood Park.

However the Rovers boss stops short of saying he is interested, as his name seems to crop up every time a so called ‘top job’ becomes available.

Hughes signed a new contract back in October amid speculation Tottenham were after him following Martin Jol’s sacking.
