Blackburn Rovers may have been defeated 2-1 by Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday but Mark Hughes was still pleased with the effort in the scorching heat.

Despite taking an early lead through Andre Ooijer and seeing Ryan Nelsen denied by the post Rovers were beaten 2-1 in their second Pre-Season game, having beaten Wrexham last week.

Even so Hughes was more than happy, especially as the game was played in conditions that should prove ideal preparations for the Intertoto Cup tie with FK Vetra in Lithuania this coming Sunday.

Sparky told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

It was a good workout. I think the heat obviously had an affect on the game as we wilted somewhat in the second half but the players got some decent work into them.

“I think that was something like their sixth or seventh game so it showed towards the end of the game when we made changes but overall it was a good workout, a good test for us.

“We had a decent game at Wrexham as well so on the back of that this has been a good exercise for us, so hopefully we’ll reap the benefits next weekend
.”
