Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes admits that we were not at our best against Middlesbrough, but he was pleased that we came back from a goal down again. He also accepts that we WERE lucky to get a point.

We have to be honest and we WERE lucky to get a point, Middlesbrough should have been out of sight by the time we were able to equalise, and even after Matt Derbyshire had managed to equalise David Wheater’s first half effort they had chances to win. So with this in mind Hughes was happy to take the point but again bemoaned the fact that we keep conceding first.

Hughes told Sky Sports: “You look back at the game, given the chances they had, which were possibly more clear cut than what we had, we are quite happy with the point.

“Overall we were quite happy with a draw, we are disappointed as it is our home game and we wanted maximum points but sometimes you just have to take what you can.

“We have to make sure we don’t concede the first goal because that is hurting us at the moment, we need to get on the front foot. We need to get momentum and when you’re chasing games that is difficult
.”

During the match Hughes, Gareth Southgate and Colin Cooper had to be separated when they squared up and exchanged “pleasantries” after a run of challenges that both sides didn’t like, however, personally I couldn’t see much wrong with any of them. Sparky played this down however, by saying this was just him reacting how he used to on the pitch.

He added: “Two centre-halves (Southgate and Cooper) and an ex-centre-forward, I reacted in the only way I know, but it was something and nothing.”
