Blackburn Rovers Manager Mark Hughes has been left happy with a job well done against VK Vetra on Sunday, following the 2-0 win that leaves Rovers a step closer to the UEFA Cup proper.

Rovers looked a little rusty against the Lithuanian side at times, and after a few hair-raising moments finally came through with a 2-0 win thanks to Benni McCarthy and Matt Derbyshire. This win must surely make Rovers virtual clear favourites to finish the job at Ewood Park in the second leg, and with that we would advance into the Second Qualifying Round of the UEFA Cup in August.

It was not a vintage performance, but Hughes was able to give a little trademark hands round his waste, pull up of his trousers with a little nod of the head in his “job done” fashion, and he was happy enough and is confident of progression.

Hughes told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website:

We’re happy with the result. It was a good win for us.

“I felt before the game it was going to be difficult because of the different stages of preparation that both teams had.

“But we are pleased with the fact we didn’t concede any goals, and the victory.

“I thought Vetra played very well. This was their big day, there was a big crowd, and I thought they did very well.

“But I thought we were professional. We didn’t allow ourselves to concede the goals that would have made the job more difficult.

“So we’re very happy
.”
