Hughes: It’s Time For Technology

The debate on should we, or shouldn’t we used technology to help officials has raged on for sometime now, but ONCE AGAIN Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has backed calls for this to be introduced.

With so much at stake these days, and there being a fine line between success and failure just one incorrect call can cost a club so much, or even a manager his job. Even on Sunday afternoon with the use of video technology a goal ruled out for Birmingham City in Rovers’ 2-1 victory cost them at least a point (maybe more) but with technology it might not have been, so even though this would have been at Rovers’ disadvantage Hughes has once again asked WHY we are not using the technology when so many other sports are, with him at a loss as to why FIFA are so reluctant to do so.

Hughes said: “I’ve said in the past that goal-line technology should have been brought in years ago.

“FIFA are the guardians of the game, and on the courses I’ve been on and conferences I’ve attended, they say that because it cannot be introduced at all levels, it’s wrong to introduce it just in the top level.

“I think maybe that argument is wearing a bit thin now.

“If there’s a natural break in play when a goal is scored, then maybe there is a case for rewinding and seeing if it is a valid goal.

“Maybe that’s the case with offside, but then how far do you go back?

“You have to be careful when you start rewinding for things and there isn’t a natural break in the game, because then it starts to fundamentally change the game
.”

This is an argument that many are both for and against, just finding a fair and balanced line is what is needed, but whether on not this is possible to be fair to all levels of the game only time will tell.
