Blackburn boss Mark Hughes has been made aware of the possible availability of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes after the Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admitted the veteran midfield pair will eventually be ‘phased out’ at Old Trafford.

Hughes has already publicly stated he would be interested in the Welsh winger and the pass master, should they be made avaiable for transfer this summer, and Ferguson’s frank statement may speed up their exits.

Speaking in the wake of United’s dramatic Champions League shootout win, Ferguson said to Sky Sports: ‘Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are in the twilights of their careers and they will still contribute in a big way next season, as they normally do, but they won’t play as many games.

‘They will eventually be phased out, which is what you have to do in this life. Ryan will be 35 in November, Paul will be 34, and they will play 25 to 30 games next season, because we have the back-up – we have the young players now.’

I am sure Ferguson would like to keep both of them but will Paul and Ryan accept such a paltry amount of games? Watch. This. Space.
