Hughes: Patience Is The Key Benni

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has pleaded with Benni McCarthy to show patience as he attempts to win his place back in the Rovers starting XI.

McCarthy has this season struggled to make the impact that he did in his first season at Ewood Park and as such has spent a bit of time on the substitutes bench, currently (although Benni is injured at the moment) having to wait behind Roque Santa Cruz and Jason Roberts. However, Hughes is hoping that Benni can draw on the example Roberts showed when he waited for his chance, so Sparky hopes the South African International will do likewise.

Hughes told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Players want to play week in, week out but he understands the impact Jason has made in recent weeks.

“Jason had to be very patient and wait for his chance and in fairness, he’s got an opportunity and taken it.

“Benni understands that and that happens in football so he hasn’t got a problem with that.

“Jason has been very patient so Benni will have to be, but we all know the quality he has on offer and can produce, so I have no issue there at all
.”

Benni recently signed a new contract with Rovers so he isn’t showing any signs of wanting to move on, but it will be interesting to see how he reacts if he has to spent a prolonged period on the bench?!?!
