Hughes Rightly Backing Benni

Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes is rightly (as why shouldn’t he!!!) backing Benni McCarthy to rediscover his goalscoring touch VERY soon.

McCarthy, who scored 24 goals last season (included finishing second to Didier Drogba in the Premiership top scorer stakes) has managed just one Premiership goal this far this season but this is not a concern for Hughes who has complete faith in the South African finding his goalscoring form soon, and probably sooner rather than later!

Hughes said: “It is still early in the season and I think it is a case of a number of players still finding their feet after a summer of hard work and preparations for the coming campaign.

“Some players will hit the ground running and others will need games. Everybody knows the ability Benni has and his goalscoring form will come back – everybody knows that.

“It’s still early. I think Benni will come to the fore as he did last year. He is an exceptionally talented player and his quality is bound to come through
.”

McCarthy was omitted from the Rovers side for Wednesday Evening’s Carling Cup encounter with Birmingham City but this was no reflection of his recent performances, simply a case of him being rested with so many matches coming up.
