Hughes Speculation Angers Rovers

Recent speculation linking Blackburn Rovers boss with a possible summer switch to Chelsea has privately, if not publicly angered Rovers.

Among other thing the Lancashire Telegraph printed:

However, such speculation has not gone down well at Rovers, and the club are privately seething about the timing of it, given that they face Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Old Trafford a week on Sunday.

The Chelsea link also comes just days after Hughes was heavily touted as the natural successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Publicly, Rovers have decided not to comment on the latest round of speculation regarding Hughes’ future, but privately they are worried it might dominate the media agenda next week in the build-up to the semi-final, which could then affect the players’ focus
.

Once Hughes openly admitted to desires of going on to manage former sides this kind of thing was always likely to come about as and when Rovers came up against such opponents. It happened against Manchester United last weekend (again!), and was an even greater certainty this time round in an FA Cup Semi Final against another.

How genuine these rumours are, or if they are merely a ploy to try and distract Hughes’ and the players focus only time will tell. Do I really think Hughes could return to Stamford Bridge this summer? I can see no reason why not as he is a manager of great potential and quality whilst Chelsea do fit the bill of being a former side, so I’m sure he could do well for them, but I’m not too sure if they would really turn to him? yet!

As for distracting player focus, they are professionals, sure they are only human but why should it distract them? I feel it should do quite the opposite! It should, I feel make them even more determined to succeed; its further incentive (as if there wasn’t enough!) to gain victory. With regards to Hughes himself, if he is seriously interested in taking over should the special one depart then victory would not harm his chances in the slightest, surely quite the opposite?
