Portsmouth have had a tough start to their Premiership season but Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has fired them a warning ahead of the Ewood Park encounter on Sunday.

Pompey have already faced Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United in the opening six matches, gaining two points from these four games (however, with Rovers having faced Arsenal and Chelsea as well, also gaining two points from these two games!) so it has been a difficult start for them, but if they are expecting it any easier this Sunday they will have to think again, as Hughes has warned his opposite number Harry Redknapp.

Hughes told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: “I’m sure Harry feared the worst when he saw the fixtures for the season coming out.

“However, he’s actually done quite well given the run of games against the top teams in the opening period of the season.

“So now they will be looking ahead thinking that in the next few weeks or so they will be able to put points on the board. They will be positive in that respect.

“But we have got a good record against them, certainly at Ewood. They have found us a side difficult to overcome in the past and we will make sure that is the case on Sunday
.”

Meanwhile Pompey manager Harry Redknapp has been very complimentary to Rovers.

Redknapp gave special praise to Ryan Nelsen (a man he tried to sign last summer) who will unfortunately be missing through injury, something that would appear to please Redknapp.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I think he is a superb centre-half and I would love to have him in my squad.

“I tried to sign him last season but unfortunately it didn’t happen.

“But Blackburn still have ability all over the pitch with Morten Gamst Pedersen, Benni McCarthy and the new lad Santa Cruz all capable of scoring goals.

“We will have to be on top of our game to get anything.

“Mark Hughes has done a good job at Blackburn and it is one of the last places you want to go.

“There are no easy matches at this level and this one certainly isn’t
.”

Also, and VERY pleasing to read Redknapp ISN’T one of those that feels Rovers are over physical or a dirty side.

He added: “They have people with a lot of physical presence but also a lot of skill. Their record speaks for itself.”
