Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has basically said that the 1-1 draw with Fulham represented two points dropped, which is was!!!

After a below par first half Rovers eventually took the lead through Morten Gamst Pedersen’s header in the second half, and had further chances to put the match beyond Fulham but Jimmy Bullard’s late equaliser with a free-kick meant that what should have been three points, ended up with us just getting one.

Hughes told BBC Sport: “We had chances but were a little bit flat in the first half, we had no real tempo.

“But the second half was more open. We got the goal and other chances.

“Maybe at times we should have been more professional, we were 1-0 up with 10-15 minutes to go and we should have been able to close the game out
.”

This was DEFINITELY two points dropped, and points that MIGHT make a difference at the end of the season?!?!

  • With only 5th being a UEFA spot now. If you want europe you need top 6 (intertoto), will be tough to finish above villa, us or the norweigans, running out of games.

  • hahaha! Your joking right? Your goal shouldnt of stood and we should of had a penalty. We deserved something from this game.

  • It will be a tough ask but we can still do it. We were the better side yesterday and should have had all 3 points. It was 2 points dropped but we cant dwell. Lets have a go at the hammers next week.

  • We should have had all three points in theory, but unfortunately theory counts for nothing in this world. 2 points dropped in my mind and getting into Europe has just become a much tougher task

  • why is fifth the only uefa spot i thought two places were allocated through the league regardless of cup competitions?! if someone could explain i would appreciate it

  • Certainly surks. At the start of the season the 5th place is the only place allocated via the League for the UEFA Cup and one place for the League Cup winners and one for the FA Cup Winners. Now if the League Cup is won by a team that has already qualified for Europe via the League or does so in the same season then an extra place will be awarded to the Premier League. If the FA Cup is won by a team that gets into Europe through their League placing then the Runner Up will qualify instead. However if the runner up is in the same situation as the winner then an extra place is awarded to the League again. With Spurs having won the League Cup and the FA Cup now due to be contested by 2 non-qualifiers only 5th place is likely to be used as a Euro place and the intertot spot will be given to the highest place team that has applied for it. Man that was long winded but I hope that helped Durks???

  • i got all the cup stuff i was just wrong in that i thought two places are allocated through the league! but if everton win the uefa and finish fifth does that open up another uefa spot in the league?

  • I think it does Durks and the same will happen if Spurs win the UEFA Cup because they have already taken one of the spots by winning the league cup.
