Blackburn Rovers have held talks with Mark Hughes with a view to extending his contract as manager of the club.

The manager has impressed since taking over from Souness in the autumn of 2004. He has taking them from a bottom six side to within a chance of qualifying for Europe.

Hughes is happy with the club’s ambition and is keen to hold talks, but wants to put any serious negotiations to one side until the end of the season.

Hughes told Skysports News

‘It’s early days of talking. The club has indicated they want to extend the contract and I am very happy with that.’

‘It is not something I am going to worry about too much at this stage because we have some really important games coming up. We will get this season out of the way and see what happens.’
