Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has admitted that failure to qualify for Europe next season could severely hamper his summer recruitment plans.

The 2-1 defeat to West Ham United on Saturday, along with other results saw Rovers slip to ninth, and although it wasn’t quite terminal as has left a dent in our European hopes for next season, almost certainly ended our automatic qualifying chances of qualifying for the UEFA Cup. With Aston Villa and Manchester City BOTH interested in taking part in the Intertoto Cup we MUST finish above them to have anyway chance.

Sparky feels that European football is needed again next season, or our chances of attracting the players to Ewood Park that he wants to will be severely hampered, something that I completely agree with, but it will not only be players not wanting to COME TO Rovers that I believe we will miss out on, I also worry about players that will maybe start thinking about wanting TO LEAVE Rovers as well!!!

Hughes told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Qualifying for Europe is important to us because it really helps with recruitment.

“If you’ve got the attraction of European football, then it helps when you are trying to attract a better quality of player.

“Ideally, we would like to present that to players if we are able to attract the right quality.

“There are still games to play, and we’ve still got games we feel we can win, so it’s not over yet
