The 3-0 away defeat at the hands of Portsmouth on Saturday was by no means the way most, if any Rovers fans saw the season starting out, but it could and probably should have been worse if we are honest.

Mark Hughes would obviously be disappointed (as would everyone) and feels that maybe not everyone was fully committed to the game, or up to match speed, which leaves you in danger of such a result. Speaking on the Official Blackburn Rovers Website he would say

Maybe some of them tried to ease themselves into the match and when you do that, it becomes difficult.”

One bad game, and one defeat with it only being the first game of the season means there is no need to panic, he would also say

But we pick ourselves up, we can’t dwell on this, we’ve 37 games to come.

Blackburn face Everton at home on Wednesday night, so if the club ever needed incentive to perform then a match like this followed so soon with a home game and the chance to make amends could be just what is needed.

It is a poor start from our point of view, but I think you’ll see a different performance on Wednesday,” said Hughes.

One of the few bad points from this game, which could eventually become a good thing could be the rescinding of Andy Todd’s Red Card; as Referee Alan Wiley has agreed to review the match footage.

Replays clearly show that Todd did in fact get a touch to the ball before Kanu went down, so there is a good chance the appeal could be successful.

  • Certainly not the best I’ve seen Blackburn play at our place, was quite surprised to be honest. Not that I’m moaning….

  • ROVERS GENERALLY HAVE A GOOD RECORD AGAINST POMPEY, NOT THIS TIME THOUGH. THE BETTER TEAM WON, ALTHOUGH I’M NOT SURE ABOUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEING 6-0?

  • Blackburn’s away record is terrible and losing to Portsmouth is bad, as Blackburn are a far better team!! though on the day we def deserved to lose, no doubts there. U can tell nothing after the 1st match but anymore of these performances and top 10 looks far away let alone top6

  • YOU ARE RIGHT, LITTLE CAN REALLY BE READ INTO ONE GAME (WELL YOU’D HOPE NOT ANYWAY!) I WOULDN’T SAY ROVERS ARE A FAR BETTER TEAM THAN PORTSMOUTH THOUGH AS THEY ARE BUILDING A GOOD SIDE.
