Blackburn Rovers manager is delighted to have made Paul Robinson the first signing of his managerial reign at Ewood Park.

Rovers completed the signing of the 28-year-old on Friday Evening, and Ince is delighted at capturing of an England International with almost 50 caps to his name.

Ince told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: “Robbo is a fantastic goalkeeper.

“Obviously it is disappointing to lose Brad, we tried all we possibly could to try to keep him here financially, but it wasn’t to be. I’m disappointed but at the same token we have to move on and we’ve replaced him with an outstanding goalkeeper in Paul Robinson.

“He’s had his ups and downs at Tottenham and England, but at the end of the day he’s an international goalkeeper, he’s played for England forty-odd times, he’s an England number one goalkeeper alongside David James.

“So it is a new start for him and I’m looking forward to working with him and hopefully he is one of many to come into Blackburn Rovers
.”

We’re all sad that we lost Brad Friedel, but we mostly agree that the signing of Robinson as his replacement will be a very good one and we’re looking forward to seeing him become the number one at Ewood this season, and hoping that he can perform to the standard we know he can, which would then see him handed an England recall.

Meanwhile Friedel has spoken about his departure from Ewood, with him believing it was the right time for him to move on and that he was only ever interested in going to Aston Villa despite interest from Mark Hughes at Manchester City.

Friedel told the Official Aston Villa Website: “Making this move was a very easy decision and a very difficult decision to make all at the same time.

“I’d been at Blackburn eight years and this was going to be my ninth season.

“The fans and everyone at the club have been terrific with me.

“In saying that I’m really excited to be here at Aston Villa.

The former American International also said that working with Martin O’Neill was a major factor in his moving to Villa.

“Being able to work with these players, with Martin O’Neill and with Mr (Randy) Lerner (club owner) is exciting for me.

“Martin was the main factor in my moving to Villa. I know a lot has been said about my Cleveland connection and my United States connection with Mr Lerner.

“I have spoken to him and he’s a fantastic guy.

“I know there was a lot going on in the press about Manchester City but from day one it was always Aston Villa
.”

If Brad felt the time was right to move on it was, we’ll all miss him and we’ll all wish him the very best at Villa Park (and as we have!). He will receive a heroes welcome I’m sure when he returns to Ewood this season, but now it’s time for us to move on and embrace the Robinson era, and give him the backing that we gave to Friedel when he arrived, and throughout his time with the club.
