Paul Ince has explained his reasonsing behind not including Morten Gamst Pedersen against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Too the shock of many, Gamst Pedersen didn’t even make the squad of 18.

However, Rovers boss Ince has explained that he felt the game wouldn’t of suited Morten and gave him a rest after a busy week of internationals.

Ince told the club’s official website: ‘Morten had been away with Norway, he played against Holland, played against Scotland, but I just felt that the way the game was, that it wasn’t the type of game for him.

‘The good thing about this team now is that we’ve got 20 players that you can pick from. Players are going to be left out, players will be on the bench.

‘That is the kind of competition you want, that is healthy competition and if you’ve got that then you’ve got a chance.

‘We’ve got some fantastic players and if you can couple that with the spirit that we’ve shown defensively then we’ve got something going here.’

I kind of like Ince’s reasoning as he is judging each team we face on it’s merits. But Morten will not likely be happy with being dropped, but it is up to him to prove he is worth re-instating for the Boro game.

Come on Morten.

  • Talk of rifts isn’t there, which I can’t see there is but hypothetically if Ince left MGP out and he didn’t like it and said he wanted to go, then I’d say we let him go as NO ONE should be assured of a place in the side. MGP (although back in some form this season) was given a fairly easy ride by Sparky, never being dropped when there were times he should’ve been. If he was dropped by Incey and didn’t like it, that isn’t the kind of reaction that I want. This is ONLY hypothetical of course! I don’t like the way Incey has to justify everything he does though, lets just let him manage like he wants!

  • He is always gonna be called into question whilst he is young and not proven at this level… but I agree, the amount of rubbish that is made up is ridiculous.

  • I have said it before in the last few days that I feel its high time MGP was dropped. People have been saying he will come good but I just dont think he has it in him and besides what motivation does he need if he is in the team every week despite playing terribly for a long time now. If this gives him the kick up the arse that he needs then great

  • It’s good to have competition for places. It’s the way it should be. even our goalkeeper now has competition, which can only be a good thing…

  • only assurance in Inces team is to be his FRIEND..FACT like it or lump it..nothing to do with ability old forth division players playing where they dont belong leaving 4 international midfielders for ten minutes for his friend..someone needs to get our Charlies head out of his rear..

  • I am not sure if Oz realises but Andrews was on the bench on Saturday and Fowler has onyl started 2 games in 2 months… at least make sense. Please.

  • Oz you do realise that Morten barely plays for Norway anymore right? and should players not be in the team based on form and no reputation? or is that good enough for you? MGP has been terrible for too long no and im glad Ince has dropped him properly

  • I agree boys MGP has been crap for over a season and i am not sure if he will hit those heights again in a Rovers shirt…..he needs a massive kick up the arse and if neccesary moved on cos he hasn’t justified his position and Hughes suffered him for far too long….Good on you Incey and Oz- DO YOU EVEN WATCH THE MATCHES????? Andrews didn’t play and to be fair to Ince he’s been playing Warnock and Tugay in front of him. you gotta chill man, ur gettin borin!!!
