Ince : First Month A Baptism Of Fire

Blackburn manager Paul Ince has admitted his first month in the job has been a tough one – mainly due to the constant speculation linking Rovers’ players away from the club.

Since Ince took over from Sparky, the 41-year-old has not really had much chance to spen the money we have on improving the squad, he has spent most of the time fending off interest in our players from other clubs and the constant (borderline ridiculous) speculation that surrounds them.

As far as Ince and most Rovers fans are concerned, the media have declared a field day with players such as Stephen Warnock, Brad Friedel, Roque Santa Cruz, Dave Bentley, David Dunn, Chris Samba (I could go on). Apparently everyone who has played for the Rovers’s first team wants to leave this summer!!!

Ince’s comments to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph show his frustration:

“It`s been a hard start, what with the Brad situation, and the Bentley situation, and Warnock,”

“It has been difficult and I`ve been annoyed about it – I just wish people would leave my players alone because it has really wound me up.

“We are trying to build a squad here, and we are trying to add new faces, but also keep the vast majority of the existing team..

“People are trying to unsettle my players, which I`m not very happy about, but we`ve just got to get on with it.

“I`ve got a good group around me and I`ve seen on our pre-season tour that a lot of the lads here still want to play for this team.

“If someone is determined to leave, there`s not much you can do about it – it`s very difficult to stand in their way.

“But, as far as I`m concerned, I`m just trying to focus on bringing people in, rather than thinking about people who want to go.”

Having already lost the immortal Brad Freidel to Aston Villa and Bents also likely to leave soon, the rest of the squad must be kept in tact.

Ince isn’t the only one who is annoyed, we the fans are too.

Warnock, Cruz, Dunn etc are all happy here. Why can’t the media see that? Ignorance at it’s finest.
