Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince was pleased with his side after we came away from the Reebok Stadium with a point on Saturday following a 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers.

Jason Roberts missed an absolute sitter, which would’ve handed us the points in the Derby but Bolton also went close so Ince was pleased overall with Rovers’ point even if he was disappointed with Roberts’ miss.

Ince told Sky Sports: “It’s disappointing, because obviously it was a golden chance and you’ve got to take them against teams like Bolton, and next time I’m sure he’d put it in the back of the net.

“But as I said, it’s a great point. The way that Bolton play, the style that they play with, it’s never easy, but I thought our back five were absolutely top class.

“And Ooijer, who I asked to play at left-back to stifle the Davies threat down the left, was top class – he did a job for the team and he was outstanding.

“You know when you’re playing a team like Bolton you’ll have to defend.

“Some people have questioned the spirit of this team, but you saw that in abundance today.

Robbie Fowler was handed a surprise full debut by Ince (cue Oz with is “friends before others” comments!!!) and even though Incey DOESN’T need to explain himself he did so to set the record straight as to why Benni McCarthy didn’t start the match.

He added: “He did well Robbie. He gives you that experience and his goalscoring record against Bolton is second-to-none, so I had a funny feeling he might score today.

“He didn’t really get the chance to do that but he played a role for the team and not for himself.

“Believe it or not, Benni only got back to our hotel from South Africa today at one o’clock, which is a bit of a joke to be fair, but he has played two games for them and you could see that when he came on.

Incey also said that he hoped Roque Santa Cruz would be fit to return from injury for our next match.
