Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes has once again stressed how he thinks Rovers’ early start to the season, due to the clubs participation in the Intertoto Cup will help them.

By starting the season earlier than some others Rovers hit the ground running when the Premiership season kicked off, and this seems to be paying off as Rovers have made a fine start to the season, as opposed to the usual sluggish start, not kicking on for a good month or so. Rovers almost always end the season strongly, so with the high fitness levels demanded by players at the club fatigue SHOULDN’T play a part at the end of the season also.

Hughes told Sky Sports News: “We’ve felt the two competitive games in the pre-season programme have helped to give us the start we’ve had in the Premier League.

“We’ve been happy with that start. It’s been an improvement in recent years so we’re reaping the benefits of it
