Blackburn Rovers have today bid farewell to Phil Jones as he has completed his move to Manchester United after a lengthy battle over the fee.

The fee is officially £17 million but an extra arrangement over further payments is believed to have been made to take the figure past the £20 million mark.

A statement released on the Rovers wesbite said – ‘Much as we would love him to stay on with us – and we made all efforts to convince him to stay – Phil has to finally follow his heart.

‘We are extremely happy with his contribution to our team and we wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.’

Jones himself had this to say to the Lancashire Telegraph as a parting message – “I’d just like to start of by saying that I’ve loved my time at Blackburn Rovers and I will always be a huge fan.

“But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am looking forward to a new challenge.”

Good luck at United Phil, I am sure you will be a hit at Old Trafford. But you passed up the chance to become a sure fire legend at the club you support. I hope you don’t regret it, I am sure in the long run you won’t but then I am biased.
