Jay McEveley No Longer a Rover

Jay McEveley this evening completed his move away from Blackburn Rovers to sign for Derby County.

As expected the left-back, who can also play as a central defender (a position I think will ultimately be his best) has completed a move to Championship promotion candidates Derby for a fee of £600,000 plus add-ons, which I would assume could be sell-on clauses and possible extra payments should promotion be achieved? The 21-year-old Scottish under-21 International has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Pride Park leaving Rovers after several injury ravaged seasons.

Jay made his Rovers debut as a 17-year-old and is best remembered for his handling of David Beckham (when he very much was golden balls!) and seemed destined for big things at Ewood Park but the injuries he often encountered held back his progress with little football being played in the blue and white halves over the last few seasons with loan spells at Burnley, Ipswich Town and Gillingham also disturbed with injuries.

It is sad to see Jay leave but the arrival of Stephen Warnock from Liverpool last week would have left him still searching for regular first team football, something he will gain with Derby. With youngsters Andy Taylor and Martin Olsson adding back-up not to mention Michael Gray we seem well stocked in this department.

Good luck Jay, hopefully we’ll see you back at this level soon.

With the transfer window closing at midnight on Wednesday do you see anyone else leaving Ewood Park, or arriving for that matter? If so who and why? Leave your names and reasons below…
