It is looking more and more likely that Blackburn Rovers defender Jay McEveley will be leaving Ewood Park again… this time permanently.

Promotion chasing Championship side Derby County have been long term admirers of McEveley with bids of £400,000 then somewhat surprisingly a few weeks later a lesser said to be of around £250,000 both rejected. With talks on a new contract stalling with McEveley out of contract in the summer it appears Rovers will cash in on him now.

Over the weekend Mark Hughes had said that talks with McEveley would continue as he wanted to keep him at Ewood but since then others have spoken of a possible bust up between McEveley and Rovers prompting a bid of up to £1 million, but probably closer to £600,000 to be accepted. The Scottish under-21 and “B” International is now in talks to tie up a move to Pride Park.

Meanwhile despite Hughes himself saying that he probably wouldn’t be looking to fill the void left by the injury to Robbie Savage a move for 31-year-old Italian International Alessio Tacchinardi, currently on loan with Villarreal from Juventus is still being heavily mooted…
