Phil Jones took part in his first proper match since December last night with a 45 minutes run out in the Reserves 3-1 win over Man City’s ridiculously named Elite Development Squad.

One of England’s brightest prospects, Jones has been out of action since December following a cartilage operation after an injury sustained against West Ham.

Word has it that Jones has built himself up in the upper body and looked his competitive self during this crucial step on the road to recovery.

In the match itself Tom Hitchcock scored twice and Matthew Pearson bagged as the second string scored all three goals in the second half.
