Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts feels that he (and Benni McCarthy) haven’t done the chances of forcing their way back into Sam Allardyce’s first team plans any harm at all.

The striker came on at half time in Rovers’ 3-1 win over Portsmouth at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon and it was their partnership (along with a good team effort in the second half) that turned the match around with Roberts scoring twice. Roberts and McCarthy have had a good goalscoring record in the past, in particular under Allardyce (scoring eight between them in Big Sam’s first six matches in charge) and JR doesn’t see why they can’t do this again.

Roberts told BBC Radio Lancashire: “I’m quite confident in what I can do.

“Since the manager arrived, when he’s used me and Benni we’ve scored a lot of goals. If you look at our record, it’s quite impressive.

JR was also happy with the reception he got from the crowd when he came on, however, he’s revealed his frustration at not playing more recently for Rovers but the 31-year-old still has faith in his own ability and feels he can force his way back in.

He added: “I’ve not been in the side for a while, so it was nice to get out there and get a good reception from the fans. I enjoyed getting on the scoresheet as well.

“You’re always frustrated when you’re not playing and I’m one of the worst for feeling like that.

“But I’ve been playing at this level for a long time and I know what I’m capable of.

JR will be hard to ignore when Premier League action returns, however, Benni’s latest comments and further admission that he wants to leave Ewood aren’t going to help him that much are they!!
