Rovers forward Junior Hoilett is hoping to make an impact in the Rovers first team and is aiming to make the most of any chances that fall on his speedy lap as and when they appear.

Junior has fallen behind players such as Martin Olsson and Phil Jones in the ‘impressive youngsters’ category that seems to be hotly contested in true x-factor style at Blackburn nowadays, but the Canadian is still in good spirits.

He is even using Brett Emerton’s cameo appearance off the bench at Blackpool as something of an inspiration.

Junior spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph and said – “Of course you look at what Brett did on Saturday and it gives all of us who aren`t playing at the moment that bit of inspiration. It shows you how things can change for you quickly.

“It shows you can make an impact as a substitute and give yourself a chance of getting into the first team. That is what all of us are aiming for.

“I am going to keep on top of my game and keep pushing, like everyone is, and I will keep trying to put pressure on the other players. That is all I can do.

“I will keep working hard in training and keep working hard in games and when I get my chance I need to take it.”

Junior put in a storming effort in the reserves against Man United with one assist and a penalty goal to his name and hopes this may translate to a first team appearance.

But the man’s self confidence seems to be in good nick and he aims just to keep his noodle to the ground and crack on.

Hoilett continued – “When you are not playing it is hard, you just have to keep focused and keep pushing on, of course the competition makes the team stronger.

“The team is playing well at the moment and there is a lot of choices, so everyone has to play at the top of their game to get in.

“It was good to get on the ball for the reserves the other night and to create stuff for the team and to get on the scoresheet myself. It gets the confidence up and hopefully that can push me on into the first team.”
