Kalinic Not Physically Ready

Blackburn Rovers striker Nikola Kalinic is hoping that the Croatian Football Association will see fit to let him miss International duty next week, should a call-up come??

The 21-year-old isn’t looking to defy the Croatian FA and isn’t planning anything with any malice at all, however, Kalinic doesn’t feel as if he is physically ready to perform for Croatia (with the striker expected to be called up for the Under-21 side) and would rather stay at the club and work on his fitness.

Kalinic told Sky Sports: “I was talking with the secretary of the Croatian FA Zorislav Srebrnic and I told him that I’m not physically ready to play for Croatia.

“For that reason it is better for me to stay in Blackburn. That is what Sam Allardyce also told be, and so I will able to work on some special training when players are on international duty.

“I agree with the manager. I know how I can play when I’m completely ready and I know I’m really not in top form.

Kalinic insists that he’d also be looking to decline the invitation from the senior Croatian International side if this also came along as he feels he’d be better of staying in Blackburn and working on his fitness.

He added: “So it will be the best for all of us if I don’t travel back home and stay in Blackburn.

“Even if Slaven Bilic would call me to the senior team my reaction would be the same.

There is often a lot of controversy about International call-ups and players not answering them, some often accused of “snubbing” the chance but it’s not like Kalinic is snubbing Croatia is it?? If it’s going to benefit the players, Rovers and Croatia in the long-term wouldn’t it be for the best for him not to play for the Under-21 side?? It would be nice to see common sense prevail on this one.
