Kean explains Givet absence

It has come to light that Gael Givet missed the 1-1 home draw with Birmingham on Saturday as he felt he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play the game.

Givet has an outstanding legal issue with Rovers over an unpaid tax bill and has even taken out legal proceedings against the club to sort out the issue.

The bearded one has for weeks been battling the club he plays for as a miscommunication over his contract meant he didn’t understand that he was liable to pay tax over a contract clause.

He feels the club should pay, Rovers feel otherwise.

But whatever the ins and outs it clearly has affected the Frenchman mentally has he declared himself unable to play.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph – “What`s happening with Gael we`d rather keep in house but it`s been in the press he`s got an ongoing situation we`re trying to resolve from when he first came to the club”

“He had a problem with his contract, hopefully that will be resolved.

“He didn`t really feel as though he was in the frame of mind to concentrate 100 per cent on the game.

“I think this will come to a head and I`m confident it will be resolved in the next four or five days.

“Then hopefully he can get his mind back on being committed to the remaining games.

“I think everyone knows when they see him playing that his commitment and passion is there in abundance.

“But obviously we have to combine that with concentration and for his head to be totally clear before he goes and plays in these games.”

Quite my boss would think if I gave her a buzz this afternoon and told her I was unable to play would make your eyes water.

So for those keeping score – we have one player who doesn’t want to play, a striker that the manager doesn’t want to play, Dave Dunn running round half fit and Roque Santa Cruz pottering round half interested.

Smashing.
