Rovers manager Steve Kean has passed on a message to want away winger Junior Hoilett – if you leave make sure it’s for a top club.

Hoilett has put off signing a new deal at the club for months now and strong rumours have suggested that the Canadian has told the club he will leave for the best bidder when given the opportunity.

This leaves Kean with some egg on his face as for months now the Rovers boss has been proclaiming that Hoilett would be signing his new contract ‘very soon’. Kean though maintains that the deal is still on the table and that he is still hopeful that Hoilett will sign.

It’s up in the air and he’s tried this technique with Phil Jones before but Kean had the following message for the youngster.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph -“I thought it had moved forward but it doesn`t seem to have gone anywhere over the last week.

“I will speak to Simon Hunt, our sports director, and we`ll see where we are with his family and his representatives. We`ll speak to the player and hopefully we can push that over the line because it seemed to be very close last week.

“It`s a concern that he hasn`t signed but we`ll look to pick it up again and get it settled.”

‘We are the best place for him to play every week before taking the next step up to the top.

‘I’ve told him that if he ever leaves the club, he should be going to a top-three or top-four club’

‘I don’t know if he’s at the stage yet that if he went to a club like that he’d play consistently.

‘But we can give him games where he’s going to feature and be a match-winner for us.’
