Danny Murphy has received a little bit of defence after a tough start to the season which has culminated in the Rovers captain being booed by his own fans on Friday night in the 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough.

Murphy has found life in the Championship tough after making the surprise switch from Fulham in the summer and has yet to show any of the form that has made the Craven Cottage brigade miss him so much.

Both he and Dickson Etuhu are yet to click in what appeared to be a very sure fire combination given their history and ability to play at the highest level.

But manager Steve Kean has passed praised on the 35 year old in his defence.

Kean told the Daily Star – “Murphy will be the best midfield player in this division and I want him on the pitch because when he gets the ball he is a good decision maker.

“It is going to be hard for him though because every team will try and stand on him and muscle him out of the game.

“But he will be a big part of us getting promoted and we will be playing through him because he is a proper football player because he can pass the ball. He has done it for a number of years at the top level.

“He is a top player and a great professional and he is going to go on and be a great captain for this club.”

I think we all need to get behind Danny as getting on his case will do nobody any good – the fans or the player.Join The Vital Debate
