Rovers manager Steve Kean was a happy chappy after seeing Rovers win their final pre-season fixture 4-1 at Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Despite looking a bit wide open at times, Rovers were clinical in front of goal (yes you read that correctly) and put their Scottish opponents to the sword with some fast paced interplay.

Further good news was provided in the form of a debut goal for new signing David Goodwillie who replaced two goal hero Jason Roberts (again, yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you).

Goodwillie picked up a clever header from the impressive Mauro Formica before showing great composure and a smart finish.

Kean proclaimed his positive state and reserved special praise for the fantastically named new boy.

A thrilled Kean told the Rovers official website – ‘It was good to end the pre-season matches with a win. You know you’re going to get a good competitive match when you play a team from Scotland and I felt that was what we got.

‘We scored some good goals, had a couple of penalties and I was delighted for David Goodwillie to score on his debut.

‘It was a typical goal from him, his awareness to pick up the bounce of the ball, to turn inside and score, he’s a natural finisher.’
