Rovers boss Steve Kean is expecting Ryan Nelsen to be fit and healthy for the start of the new campaign which gets under way in just over 2 weeks time.

Rovers have been without the services of their club captain since March time after he underwent an operation to clear up a knee injury which ruled him out of the back end of last season.

But Nelsen has made solid progress and Kean has been taking advice of his medical team and is optimistic.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph -‘Unfortunately we lost Ryan towards the end of last season, he had quite a major operation on his knee.

‘He’s taking part in some of the sessions but talking to our medical team, they’re confident he’ll be fit for the start of the season which is tremendous’

‘We’ve got a senior group that’s very important to us and I’m confident he’ll be fit for the start of the season.’
