Rovers head into battle with Manchester City on Saturday and face the very real prospect of doing so without as many as FIVE first choice defenders.

Scott Dann, Michel Salgado and Gael Givet could all be missing through knocks picked up at Newcastle last weekend and Ryan Nelsen is still out with a long term injury.

Add into the mix that Martin Olsson is suspended and Rovers have something of a problem on their hands (yes, another one).

That means the likes of Morten Gamst Pedersen and Jason Lowe face the very real prospect of playing out of position at full back and Steve Kean has issued a challenge for the lads who may have to come in to rise to the occasion.

Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph – ‘There are a lot of injuries from one game and you can take that if you get something from the game, but not to get anything from it is tough.’

‘We will get back on the training ground, prepare ourselves in the right way, see what bodies we can get and we will go again.

‘Some of the players who perhaps haven’t had much of a run this season could get their chance. Obviously if the injuries tot up then the lads that have the opportunity have to grab that.

‘If they get given the chance then they have to take it and these times are always a time when you look at the depth of the squad and thankfully we have other players in these positions and they can come in and play.’

Either that or we could just play Chris Samba at the back on his own and send everyone else up front?
