Kean plays coy with Gignac suggestion

Rovers boss Steve Kean has been playing it cool after random speculation linking Blackburn with a move for rather tall Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, or the ‘Giga-Man’ as he has been dubbed in the past. (If not, I am claiming it).

Quite where the rumours have come from is anybodies guess but he is the sort of player that Rovers could use to compliment the free scoring Yakubu, whether he would even contemplate a move to the Rovers circus remains to be seen however.

Either way, Kean refused to be drawn too much on the issue, concentrating more on a frustrating January window where Rovers spent roughly £0 on transfer fees.

Kean is quoted in various papers as saying – ‘I’m an admirer of any good players, and he’s a very good player.’

‘It was quite frustrating. We wanted an experienced striker but we didn’t manage to get one. We managed to get a younger one in Modeste, who we took on loan, and we’ll keep looking. We’re always trying to improve.

‘There’s a number of players that are on the radar. We’ve got a very good network of scouts that flag up players in certain positions.’

No mention of Bruno Ribeiro or Myles Anderson at the end there? Surprising that.
