Kean ready for Simon to say more

Simon Vukcevic got a little bit of special praise after last night’s unconvincing win over Leyton Orient in the Carling Cup 3rd round.

Rovers as a unit were pretty wasteful and the League side almost made Rovers pay for their woes but after the 3-2 win it had become clear that the starting debut boy signed from Sporting Lisbon had grown into his new role.

After a slow start to the first half Simon got better as the game went on and was the stand out talent in a fairly poor game.

Tricks, runs, bursts of power and a fine goal capped a promising show from the Montenegro international.

‘I think he showed glimpses,’ – Kean told the official Rovers website.

‘It shows he wants to take people on and even if he is on the right-hand side he checks on to his left foot, like he did for the goal.

‘He has got power and accuracy but what he has to learn is when to bounce it on with one touch and not necessarily have a trick.

‘He obviously likes back-heelers because he’s done about 17 in the last two games.

‘He is just adapting to the pace of the country and not only the way not only Premier League teams but lower league teams come in and get in your face and you have to do things quickly.’

A start against Newcastle on the horizon perhaps?
