Kean stays (shock of all horrors) positive

Steve Kean has stood strong in the face of mounting pressure by backing his players and the fans that support him.

Kean has even suggested that some of his backers from the Ewood faithful will protest FOR him and stated the backing he receives from his playing staff and the owners remains total.

The protests took another twist this weekend with a plane flying over Ewood Park that attracted wide spread attention and a small bunch of fans stayed behind for the fourth home game in a row to show continued displeasure with the Kean regime.

But despite the storm, Mr Unflappable remains just that.

Kean told MailSport – ‘We feel as though we’re in a false position. We missed two penalties against Everton and they got a dubious one at the end of the game. Norwich were also given a dodgy one against us last week.

‘So we should have another six points on the board. But, then again, most clubs could say that.

‘Our performances have been good. No team has battered us and we’ve beaten Arsenal.

‘It’s coming. The signs are positive. Fans who are behind me and the club are going to protest against the protestors.

‘A couple of hundred are against me but you’ll get that at every club.

‘When they start chanting negative things then that is heard around the stadium and picked up by the media. However, the amount of support I’ve received has been incredible. We receive letters on a daily basis and it’s all positive.

‘Fans have told me they are enjoying our style and it’s the best football they’ve seen Blackburn playing in years.

‘They are encouraged by the youngsters they see coming through.

‘I live in the area – just five minutes from the training ground. I see our supporters every day and they are fine with me. They know I share their frustration when we don’t win.

‘The good fans have decided enough is enough and they won’t tolerate any more negative singing or demonstrations.

‘They know it’s time for everyone to unite and get behind the team.

‘I’m not pretending to be some sort of tough guy. It’s easy for me to remain positive as the players, the owners and most of the punters believe in me.

‘I don’t need to psyche myself up to come into work every morning. It’s not like I’m afraid to go out in the town and have to hide in the house. That’s not the way it is.

‘I’ve never thought about chucking it. Not once has it entered my head.

‘I want to succeed here for the players, the owners and the fans. The supporters love the fact we try to score in every game.

‘We just need to get the balance right when we’re defending. The younger players need to be more switched on when we don’t have the ball. We’re constantly drilling them on that.

‘We have a Carling Cup quarter-final away to Cardiff and are 90 minutes from a semi. We’re aiming to lift the trophy. Why not? Winning at Wembley would be special.’
